Tequila Lime and Ginger Popcorn

Recipe: Tequila Lime and Ginger Popcorn

Summary: It might have been the margaritas that influenced this popcorn recipe. Combining tequila with popcorn isn’t new, but we thought that adding the peppery flavor of ginger would give this popcorn snack an interesting kick. And it does. Since this recipe uses butter, we chose to pop the popcorn in our hot air popcorn popper to help keep the calories of this rich recipe at a minimum. Also, we used mushroom popcorn so there would be more surface area to hold the flavor.


  • 10 cups popcorn (1/2 cup unpopped kernels)
  • 1/3 cup butter melted
  • 2 teaspoon freshly squeezed lime juice
  • 1/2 teaspoon lime zest
  • 2 tablespoons tequila
  • 1 tablespoon finely ground fresh ginger
  • 1 teaspoon cayenne
  • 1 teaspoon ground cumin
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon pepper


  1. Heat oven to 300 degrees
  2. Melt butter in a saucepan
  3. Pour in remaining ingredients except popcorn
  4. Whisk until fully mixed and allow to cool for 5 minutes
  5. Pour sauce into a large container with a lid.
  6. Add popcorn to container. Toss until thoroughly covered.
  7. Spread popcorn evenly on a parchment-lined cookie sheet
  8. Bake for 15 minutes.
  9. Cool for 15 minutes. Can be stored in a loosely covered container
